Role: Planned Giving Officer II
Required Experience: Four-year degree or equivalent work experience ( four years). Bachelor’s degree highly preferred. In addition to education or education equivalent, requires five years of work experience, including a minimum of three years of successful sales or fundraising experience working in a phone or face-to-face sales/fundraising environment with proven ability to take prospects through the sales cycle to close large gifts.
Preferred Experience: Knowledge of Planned giving and estate planning, highly desired. Experience with CRM systems. Previous experience coaching or leading a team, strongly desired. Knowledge of Planned Giving or completion of at least one course in planned giving strongly desired.
Salary: $60,000 – $65,000 (depending on experience and geographic location)

02 The Job
As the Planned Giving Officer you will develop and build long-term relationships with prospective planned giving donors primarily through voice-to-voice interaction, and occasional face-to-face donor development. You will initiate, develop and grow fundraising with donors whose giving capacity ranges from $10,000 and up with goal of closing planned gifts. Develop donor relationships from interest in a planned gift through closure of planned gifts at the $10,000 and above levels, through different gifts. Qualify higher level leads and develop donor relationships for referrals to Planned Giving Directors. Coach Planned Giving Officers in the ability to develop donor relationships from interest in a planned gift through closure of gifts. Help carry out our Awook organization’s mission, vision, and strategies.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Responsible for acquiring 100 or more gifts per year, ranging in value between $10,000 – $100,000 each, in order to meet an annual fundraising goal of $2,000,000 in planned giving commitments.
- Demonstrate knowledge of planned giving vehicle, including wills, living trusts, and charitable gift annuities as well as a fundamental understanding of charitable remainder trusts.
- Engage with high value leads and donors primarily via voice to voice interactions to cultivate planned gifts. Engage in relational fundraising with donors, including understanding donors’ needs and goals in order to customize offer, motivating donors to make a significant gift of cash or appreciated securities.
- Understand and articulate Awook Foundation’s transformational model and relate mission and work to donor’s goals and passions to encourage life income gifts to sustain model after donor’s lifetime.
- Steward Awook Foundation Legacy Society donors by regular communications (phone, face to face, personal written messages) to increase retention of constituencies. Assist other Development staff in the recruitment of new members. Maintain and ensure accuracy of constituent CRM. Advise and coach Planned Giving Officers on how to engage donors and cultivate relationships that lead to planned gifts for Awook Foundation through telephone interaction. Coach members in relational fundraising strategies and provide up-to-date resources in order to increase Planned Giving Officers’ ability to close modest-level planned gifts.
- Develop and produce customized gift proposals for donors through use of specialized software to generate financial, tax and legal implications for fits for a donor’s lifetime.
- Provide basic information regarding tax and financial implications of gift and interpret benefits to donor in discussions to advance closing gifts.
- Discern when complex donor inquiries should be referred to other team members and facilitate “warm hand-offs” as needed.
- Ensure strategic prospect plans are developed and utilized by team members as appropriate to facilitate highest and best gift.
- Assist in developing portfolios through face-to-face regional events on a semi-regular basis as part of own portfolio development and soliciting gifts.
- Serve as internal consultant to senior fundraisers to develop and coordinate donor relations activities.
- Strategically partner with Planned Giving team members to understand complexity of potential proposed gift structure for individual donors at middle-tier levels.
- Work collaboratively with team members when assigned to work as a member of a team.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Maintain awareness of corporate goals, objectives, organizational announcements, and activities. Reference and follow organizational policies and procedures, seeking clarity as needed.
