Experience to include the following: developing and/or managing financial analytics solutions, experience with SQL and/or other query languages; experience designing or maintaining data ETL processes (preferably SSIS, Power Automate) experience with data visualization tools (such as PowerBI or Tableau); experience working with and incorporating multiple sources of data to answer complex financial questions.

02 The Job

Awook Foundation is seeking a Data Engineer (Finance Focused) on our Finance, Planning and Analysis team to provide meaningful data that enables our business to make data-driven decisions and identify improvement opportunities. Our Finance, Planning and Analysis team takes an active role in becoming trusted partners with all business functions. The ideal candidate is an experienced data pipeline builder who is passionate about using data to drive performance.  In this role, you will leverage both technical and collaboration skills to wrangle data and optimize data systems. Responsibilities include:

  • Build ad-hoc and recurring datasets for financial analyst/business intelligence users to generate actionable insights. This includes the build and maintenance of recurring data sets for movement into CPM (Corporate Performance Management) applications or other analytic tools.  Maintain the ETL (extract, translate and load) code and process.
  • Design, implement, and support data repositories and delivery platforms for large datasets (e.g., “Data Lakes”) and other analytic tools for complex, voluminous data outside of the CPM (Corporate Performance Management) application. Ensure that solutions are developed in collaboration with AI Information Technology staff and adhere to WV Standards and practices.
  • Support team members in the design, implementation and management of portals, dashboards, analytic tools and reporting platforms used within Finance. This may include build of data architectures and relationships in Power BI for multi-sourced queries, including calculations and metrics.
  • Collaborate and partner with both finance and IT staff to deliver high quality data architecture and data pipelines; Understand both the end-user data needs and AI data structures and definitions to ensure the right data is available.
  • Support finance staff in ensuring high-quality and consistent data is available and used effectively across finance and other business reporting platforms.
  • Analyze process, tools, and systems to make recommendations for improvement, simplification, or automation
  • Communication and Knowledge Transfer:
    • Empower end-users through instruction/training and functional knowledge transfer.
    • Keep pace with industry changes, technology, and strategies.  Stay abreast of best practices and propagate this knowledge to others.
    • Serve as effective liaison between finance community and Information Technology teams.
    • Proactively advocate the Finance team’s interest with other internal business units to ensure consistent and effective use of technology; Advocate for system and process design that aligns to best practices.

03 You Bring

  • 3 – 5 years work experience with large relational and/or OLAP databases (Oracle, SQL Server, etc.) and/or with a dedicated financial planning/performance management system;
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (four years) work experience.
  • Experience developing and/or managing financial analytics solutions and working with SQL and/or other query languages
  • Experience designing or maintaining data ETL processes (preferably SSIS, Power Automate) and working with data visualization tools (such as PowerBI or Tableau)
  • Experience working with and incorporating multiple sources of data to answer complex financial questions.
  • Excellent problem solving, debugging, and trouble shooting skills.
  • Proven skill in multiple technical environments and
  • Basic finance aptitude.
