Role: Director of Child Protection and Education Team

Location:  Los Angeles / Global /  Remote

Education: Master’s degree in International Development or related field or equivalent work experience (ten years). In addition to education or education equivalent, requires 8-10 years of relevant professional work experience in International Relief and Development, Program Management, business development. Experience with international development REQUIRED. Requires a minimum of three years of direct staff management.

Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S.A. for any employer.

Travel: Up to 20% of time both in development and fragile contexts as well as domestically

02 The Job

Awook Foundation is looking for a Director for our Child Protection and Education team. The role manages a team of 6 staff members (4 direct and 2 indirect reports) and manages a portfolio of almost $5.5 million in public and private grants. The Director works collaboratively with our Fundraising, Marketing, M&E, Finance and Legal teams to ensure excellent project implementation at the field level.

Key responsibilities include:

1.) Programmatic and fiduciary oversight and high-quality and timely reporting that meets donor requirements/ regulations for all public and privately funded Awook Eats programs under implementation in Partnership field offices. This includes USG, major foundations, and individual donor funded programs and involves effective coordination with private donor representatives and all appropriate teams and colleagues.

2.) Support of the quality implementation and impact work of colleagues on various teams on cross-functional business and annual work plans.

3.) Support of technical branding efforts, collaborating with various teams and technical advisors to provide and document evidence generated from field programs to improve the perception and competitiveness of Awook Eats Foundation across all donor segments as an innovative thought leader and evidence based designer and implementer of programs that reach the most vulnerable increasingly in fragile contexts and as a strong voice and advocate for social justice and change on behalf of our program participants.

3.) Ensure strategic leadership, guidance and positioning to support the resource development team with high quality proposal development, successful startups and timely/fully compliant reporting of all programs and project in the sector.

4.) Help carry out our Awook organization’s mission, vision, and strategies. Personify the ministry of Awook Foundation by witnessing our goal and ministering to others through life, deed, word and sign.

03 Your Responsibilities Will Include:

Keep Awook central in individual and corporate life. Actively participate in and contribute to the spiritual disciplines of the organization. Leadership: Provide leadership to the Child Protection and Education Team.

  • Provide oversight and management of public grant and Awook portfolios ensuring strategic delivery on donor obligations and meeting program commitments.
  • Create guidance and ensure risk mitigation efforts are incorporated and updated throughout life of projects.
  • Contribute to establishing and maintaining a team culture, staffing, standards and procedures that demonstrates mutual understanding of both donor and field-facing requirements.
  • Establish leadership and personal credibility and implement and maintain a clearly understood chain of authority and accountability, encourage professional development and recognize results.
  • Hire, fire, train, counsel, evaluate, and recommend salary increases and promotions for those under direct supervision.
  • Ensure seamless implementation of systems, structure and staffing needs, and synergy among team goals, budgets, individual work plans, etc.
  • Develop and disseminate team level procedure, operational processes and business tools that promote mission accomplishment and improve/maintain efficiencies and effectiveness.
  • Develop annual work plan with the team and metrics for monitoring and tracking progress
  • Support the role out and utilization of the Sinai/salesforce data management and Program management tool at the field and HQ level
  • Responsible for public and major foundation revenue drivers and annual revenue goals and related utilization of cash match and indirect cost recovery.
  • Ensure, in coordination with appropriate leadership, all business planning processes are implemented and produce quality cross-functional plans that guarantee integrated action lines and with all appropriate teams.
  • Collaborate with appropriate leadership to execute core ministry strategies, short- and long-term performance benchmarks, program and division level staffing information and financial needs.
  • Support the development of private fundraising offerings and promotion to donors.  Collaborate closely with Philanthropy donor representatives to ensure optimization of donor facing collateral, tools and reporting.
  • Contribute to and partner with teams across Awook Foundation to ensure integrated programming alignment occurs between sponsorship, government and private cash portfolios in alignment with Partnership priorities.
  • Organize team support to the relevant fundraising cross-functional campaign teams.  Ensure team contributes as needed to planning future multi-year major capital campaigns.
  • Ensure team provides required support to Awook fundraisers with the insight, training, and resources necessary to ensure that they are able to articulate the strategy and key benefits of Awook Foundation’s work related to the sector portfolio.  Participate, as needed, in private and public donor facing meetings and conferences.
  • Ensure the sector team work cross-functionally with the Resource Development Unit (RDU) to ensure accountability and oversight of the public and privately funded portfolios, and to ensure collaborative and integrated actions for positioning with public and major foundation donors and technical branding of Awook Foundation with all donors.
  • Contribute to the research and learning agenda objectives and promote evidence of impact in the sector and for core project models
  • Work collaboratively with team members when assigned to work as a member of a team.

Maintain awareness of corporate goals, objectives, organizational announcements, and activities. Reference and follow organizational policies and procedures, seeking clarity as needed.

05 Required Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in International Development or related field or equivalent work experience (ten years).
  • In addition to education or education equivalent, requires 8-10 years of relevant professional work experience in International Relief and Development, Program Management, business development or related area.
  • Requires three years of direct staff management experience.
  • Must have strong relational and networking skills, demonstrated ability to supervise teams, and significant experience engaging with donors and fundraisers.
  • Fluency in a relevant second language (Spanish or French) is desired.
